The length of time that one must obtain an SR-22 varies depending upon the reason you are required to carry this financial responsibility certificate, and the state laws etc. Some states notify you how long you will have to carry the SR22 when you are first required to get it.

If you think that your time period is over, you should contact your Department of Motor Vehicles in Chicago IL, or like state agency, to check if you may take off the SR-22 or not. The Department of Motor Vehicle should also be able to inform you how long the SR-22 is require for various violations so you will know how much longer you are required to hold the SR-22 if your time is not up yet.
